A Biden White House rebrand
With the illegal immigration crisis getting worse every day at the southern border, the Biden administration is now taking the same approach as the Democrats once condemned under the Trump administration. They are completely rebranding the same measures.
What was once considered the awful and disgraceful locking of “kids in cages” under former President Trump is now being considered the only “humane and moral” thing to do, according to the new administration.
At the Monday’s White House press briefing, White House press secretary Jen Psaki admitted the administration is managing the large increase of unattended children crossing the U.S.-Mexico border by reopening surge facilities dedicated to temporarily housing migrant children until they can be transferred to long-term facilities. But this, she said, is “safe and humane.”
“We’ve made a policy decision as an administration that the humane and moral approach is to keep these kids safe and get them into facilities that are safe,” Psaki stated, adding, “It is an area of policy discussion, how will we continue to accommodate, in a safe and humane way, these kids.”
“Our objective remains moving them as quickly as possible out of the Border Patrol facilities,” she continued. “in order to do that, we need to have shelter facilities that are safe, that have access to educational resources, legal resources, health and medical resources, and we need to ensure that we have capacity to do that.”
Democratic lawmakers and immigration activists attacked Trump in 2019 when his administration opened a surge facility in Carrizo Springs, Texas, only for one month. Trump pointed out that it wasn’t his administration that had even built the so-called “cages”, it was the Obama admin, while Biden was serving as the VP.
Now these surge facilities are going to be used more than ever than during the previous administration. The Biden admin has been announcing very lenient immigration policies, as result the southern border has been overwhelmed with migrants.
Since unprepared to handle the increase, the admin has reopened migrant children housing facilities, and purchasing tickets to fly children to relatives’ residences in the United States.
The Department of Homeland Security predicts 117,000 unattended migrant children will have illegally entered the U.S. this year, 45% more than any other-year on record. Just last week the administration was short by approximately 20,000 beds. It was also predicted that shelters will be at a full capacity by the end of the month.
Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has recently ordered the Texas National Guard to help with the border crisis. He believes the Biden admin is not up to the task.
