The United States may be the mightiest, most advanced military on the face of the planet but that doesn’t mean we have no reason to fear the developments being made by our rivals China and Russia in the arena of warfare. Both nations have been ramping up its weapons production, particularly their nuclear capabilities, while flexing their power on our allies in the east.
Peter Brookes, a research expert on weapons of mass destruction and counter proliferation, recently divulged the two communist nations’ burgeoning weapons program.
“Moscow’s list includes an intercontinental ballistic missile launched with a hypersonic vehicle, a nuclear-powered intercontinental torpedo, a nuclear-powered cruise missile, and air- and sea-based hypersonic weapons,” Brookes wrote in his opinion piece.
“China seems to be following in Russia’s missile footsteps,” Brookes continued.
While Russia has always been known for its military capabilities and vast experience in global conflict, China is catching real fast. What’s scary about the Chinese is their focus on offensive capability, proving suspicions that they aren’t just souping up their weaponry for the sole purpose of defending themselves, they plan to initiate an assault on their targets as well.
“Theoretically, the growth of China’s nuclear arsenal could give it a first-strike capability, encouraging it to cast aside its “no first use” policy, and potentially embracing a massive (preventive or preemptive) nuclear strike option against an adversary with the purpose of preventing a conventional military or nuclear response,” Brookes continued.
“While much still needs to be known about Chinese strategic capabilities and possible nuclear doctrine changes, with novel nuclear platforms possibly in the pipeline and more strategic weapons likely in its arsenal, China appears to have every intention of standing toe-to-toe on nukes with not only Russia, but the United States, too,” Brookes added.
While the animosity between America and its communist rivals is nowhere near the brewing point, the possibility that they will harass or invade our allies is very high. As soon as China starts launching attacks on Taiwan, we are obliged to defend the helpless tiny island nation from its totalitarian relatives on the mainland. The United States will automatically be drawn to the conflict, leaving our people vulnerable to retaliation.
“China requires nuclear missile superiority because it wants to destroy democracy in Taiwan, wants to destroy the U.S.-led military alliance system in Asia, and wants to be the military hegemon on Earth by mid-century,” Richard Fisher of the International Assessment and StrategyCenter, stated in an interview back in July.
